About the Hapa Librarian

Who are you?
While I sign all of the blogs I write as A. Random Hapa, my real name is Tricia.  I graduated with an MLS from University of Maryland in 2010, and I am a library manager in the DC Metro area. While I work in public services, I am also interested in government information and issues of intellectual property and privacy as they relate to digital information and to libraries.

...So why this blog?
I've made it a personal goal to try keep in better touch with professional news and developments. This also hearkens back to some of my favorite classes in Library School, which typically started with sharing of news related to the subject of the class.

What's a Hapa?
"Hapa is Hawaiian slang for someone whose mixed racial heritage includes Asian or Pacific Islander ancestry" - Donna Seaman, ALA
I identify with this term not only because I am of mixed Asian/Caucasian ancestry, but also as a former resident of Hawaii. It's a part of who I am... a part I've fully embraced.
